Welcome To The Official SIA Website

The newly formed SIA committee is made up of a number of industry owners, suppliers and service providers. We are the voice for our industry. Hello I am the newly elected President of the SIA for NSW, my name is Walter Suber and I have been involved with the SIA for the last 10 years in various capacities. I work for OneSteel George Ward Sheet Coil and Aluminium, I am their Business Development Manager and Metallurgist.

The new formed committee is motivated to bring the Association to a greater audience and make the Mums and Dads aware of Australian Manufacturing and to seek their support in buying Australian made products. A healthy Australian manufacturing base is paramount for the well being of our nation, its manufacturing that gives you the value add, keep the skills and jobs in Australia, lets not give it away.

We look forward in working with State and Federal Governments to put our case forward and seek their support. Our Association has a great relationship with TAFE and once again will continue to work with them to develop the skills of our young people and the re-skilling of our valued employees already in our industry. I would like to see the other states setting up an SIA group in their home state and see if we can set up a National SIA group.

I also challenge our SIA members and new members to come on board to grow the Association and become a major lobbying force for Australian industry.

Once again thankyou for your support.

What is the Sheetmetal Industry

The Sheetmetal Industry encompasses the supply of sheetmetal and also the manufacture of items from sheetmetal. Value-chain partnerships between suppliers and manufacturers is paramount to the success of the industry. Sheetmetal components are fabricated from carbon and stainless steel, as well as aluminium, brass and copper sheet. Components manufactured range from small items to larger commercial and industrial products.

The sheetmetal manufacturing industry has advanced rapidly over the past twenty years. With the evolution of smart technology and automation in all facets of this exciting industry, the challenges for industry participants and educators have become significant.

Flexible manufacturing techniques offered by manufacturers enable them to service industries such as aerospace, telecommunications, gaming, hospitality, electronics, air conditioning, electrical, lighting and medical. Computer Numerically Controlled services include punching, laser cutting, folding and robot welding as well as high end technologies for spot welding, design engineering, mechanical assembly, computer aided design and 3D modelling, powder coating and any type of metal finishing.

Today’s global marketplace requires these organisations to continually develop their work practices to retain a competitive edge. The introduction of new technology, work practices and strategies is backed up with appropriate organisational training. The modern sheetmetal manufacturing enterprise continues to innovate and develop know-how that creates new business and employment opportunities.

Northcott

The SIA is again proud to partner and support Northcott Disability Services in 2007. Northcott has more than 51 programs in place for people with disabilities and their families or carers across NSW. In line with the SIA’s drive for career pathways and employment, among the many services offered by Northcott is the assistance of individuals with disabilities, in the gaining of employment, independent living and the contribution to the development of a more inclusive community. Dockside, the awards dinner venue, will donate 10% of the venue cost to Northcott. Funds raised by the live auction and raffle at the gala dinner will go directly to Northcott Disability Services.
