Sculpture Of The Year 2003/2004

Parliament House NSW was selected by the SIA Sub Committee as the venue for the Apprentice of the Year 2003 presentation of awards and industry dinner to further promote the status of the Sheetmetal Industry in the political arena. The theme for the event was ‘The Art of Sheetmetal’ to introduce the SIA Inaugural Sculpture Awards created to encourage and interest High School students in the Sheetmetal trade.

The sculpture awards require the young artist to construct a sculpture using sheetmetal no more than 1.5 metres high and able to be moved by two people. The subject matter is ‘free choice’. Art teachers from NSW metropolitan and country High Schools submitted student nominations for the awards.

The six finalists, including their family and teachers, were invited to attend the 11am official launch and judging on 2 nd April 2004 at Parliament House NSW in the Fountain Court and then for refreshments in the Speakers Garden, kindly hosted by The Hon. John Aquilina MP Speaker for the Legislative Assembly NSW. The work of the finalists was exhibited in Parliament House for two weeks .
