Industry Awards
What are they doing now

Hi my name is Brad Hooppell, I starting working at Marcus Engineering in January 2003 after successfully completing an apprenticeship as a butcher. During the lead up to the Sydney 2000 Olympics I started to notice a lot of magnificent buildings being developed & built around Sydney . These buildings caught my eye because of the size and design of them.

After considering my future in butchery I did a bit of research and found a company in Brookvale that had completed a lot of work on the Sydney Stadium's at Homebush. There work involved architectural designed awnings and facades fabricated from aluminium and stainless steel. I felt that this type of work was what I wanted to do and that the sky was the limit for my skill of using my hands artistically.

Upon starting my Fabrication Engineering apprentiship, I was told that there was an award won which was the “SIA APPRENTICE OF THE YEAR”. I felt like this was within reach for me. The company “ Marcus Engineering” and myself have completed many projects since I joined them some of the projects are, Latitude at World Square in Sydney, Westfield Shopping Mall at Bondi Junction, Kens/Westpac in Sydney and the Heffron Project at the University of NSW.

During my time on the job I have applied myself and tried my best at every thing I made, I have applied the different techniques learnt at TAFE and demonstrated by the tradesmen that I watched, helped, listened & paid attention to during my four years as an apprentice.

Winning the SIA APPRENTICE OF THE YEAR has given me more opportunities, confidence, motivation, respect and a great feeling that nothing is out of reach as long as I try my best and know myself that I have given my all.

Regards Brad Hooppell
