Apprentice of the Year 2002


In an effort to upstage the previous year event the 2002 Apprentice of the Year Awards were conducted at Telstra Stadium (Stadium Australia).

SIA President Mr Colin Johnsen (CEO of FJ Precision) opened procedures by introducing our special guests: The Hon. Dr Brendan Nelson MP, Minister for Education, Science & Training; Gary Willmott Assistant Director General, TAFE NSW; Mark Goodsell, NSW Director Australian Industry Group (AIG) and Peter Wright, Director TAFE NSW Manufacturing & Engineering Division.

The President also acknowledged the contribution of the major sponsors for the evening: The Sheet Metal Industry Association, Total Steel Australia, Dulux, BOC Gases, Onesteel George Ward Sheet & Coil, Finlease, Salvagnini (Machinery Forum) and The Australian Industry Group. Custom Built Sheet Metal and Advanced Metal Products supplied the plaques and trophies.

The award proceedings were conducted by SIA Sub Committee Chair, Mr Walter Suber (Business Development Manager, Onesteel George Ward Sheet & Coil) who introduced the five finalists and their employers.
